Community
Bible Fellowship is not about buildings or programs. It is
all about people -- people who love God with all their heart, soul,
mind and strength and who love each other as themselves.
At CBF we strive to help each other become more like Christ
and to help others come to know Christ as their Savior.
Sunday mornings
begin at 9:30 with worship. This is led by a deacon
or elder and includes praise and worship music chosen by the leader,
drawn from both traditional and contemporary sources. Also
included each Sunday is the celebration of the Lord's Supper, led
by another deacon or elder. All who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
are invited to participate. A significant amount of time is
spent sharing praises and prayer requests; volunteers from the
congregation pray for each request. Our worship time
concludes with announcements and recognition of birthdays for the
coming week.
After worship we have a 30 minute break for fellowship and refreshments.
Next is teaching time. The adults and senior high students
gather in the sanctuary to hear a message from our pastor, while the
younger children have Sunday School. A nursery is provided.
Purposes
- To teach the Bible as the inspired and
authoritative Word of God for our lives.
- To worship our Lord Jesus Christ without any
denominational guidelines.
- To encourage and support fellow Christians in
their spiritual growth.
- To reach out to our community to share the
message of salvation to the unsaved.
- To seek to meet the physical, emotional, and
spiritual needs of those in our church and those outside our church.
- To support through prayer and finances the
proclamation of the message of salvation to the whole world.
Denomination
Community Bible Fellowship is nondenominational. Its church
government follows the New Testament teaching of elder and deacon
leadership. CBF does not have any membership roll since there
are no privileges for members or exclusions for nonmembers.
Bible Version
CBF does not have pew Bibles; please bring your personal Bible to use during
the services. And yes, you will need it! |
CBF meets 1.25 miles east of
Medicine Lodge, Kansas at the intersection of Curry Lane and the Isabel
Road.
Medicine Lodge is a town of about
2,000 in south central Kansas. It is at the intersection of US 281 and
US 160, about 80 miles southwest of Wichita.
History
Community Bible Fellowship came into existence as a result of a
gathering of concerned Christians in July of 1987.
Approximately 30 people expressed their concern with the lack of an
evangelical, grace-oriented church in Medicine Lodge. Feeling
that there was an unmet need for Bible teaching and biblical worship in
this community, they began meeting in the basement of John Clarke's
home. A few months later the name Community Bible Fellowship
was adopted, and the church rented the old Grand Hotel as its meeting
place.
In the spring of 1990, CBF purchased property 1.25 miles east of
Medicine Lodge. But on June 10th at the church property,
CBF's parsonage and newly remodeled worship area burned. CBF
continued to meet at the Grand until April 1991, and then moved to the
Christian Church in Sharon. On June 21, 1992, CBF began
meeting in the basement of a new permanent church structure on the
property east of Medicine Lodge. In late 1999 CBF began work
on the top floor of its church building and worshiped there for the
first time April 30, 2000.
In December 2003 the office building was remodeled to give the youth a
larger meeting room. In early 2006 work began on a building
downtown to be used as a teen center and an even larger youth meeting
room. Reality Check met in the teen center for the first
time May 24, 2006, and open house was held June 1, 2, and 3.
The final work was completed during the summer and the
official grand opening was Aug. 13, 2006. |
