Aviator 09 Day 1

On day 1 we arrived in Derby and prepared to hand-out flyers to every house in Mulvane. We did not make it to every house, but most of them. Then we played a game where you try to hit your friends with a foam thingy. That is always fun!

Aviator 09 day 2

Our second day we went and helped with Epic Church in Andover. We went door to door with flyers and even had three super heroes help us put post cards on cars. What was the big news? Epic Church was having its first preview service the following Sunday!

Aviator 09 Day 3

We were in Mulvane and ready for the parade action by 8:00. That is too early for the summer but everyone was awake and ready. We passed out candy and flyers at the parade and then passed out balloons, frisbees and flyers at the festival. We were taken to dinner at Tallianos and it was tasty. Finished the day with Tim Hawkins DVD.

Aviator 09 Day 4

The final day was set aside to help Aviator Church set up and tear down the church. That takes a lot of time since it all comes from a trailer. That will be how they operate until they build their own church and move out of Derby High.

Rebellion

Well it’s been a couple days since we’ve been back from camp.  I hope that all that went to camp have gotten rested up (and hopefully aren’t sick, I know a few, including myself, got some bugs from the trip).

For those who didn’t go to camp,  the theme was Rebellion.  Which at first sounds kinda weird.  But it was not a typical rebellion–it was a rebellion against the world and all that it tells us.  I’d encourage everyone to intentionally rebel in some way.  Here are some ways that some people in our group shared that they wanted to rebel in.

  • A daily quiet time  -  Though it sounds weird that being quiet equates to being a rebel.  But think about it.  How many Christians actually have a quiet time?  Our group shared about how they wanted to rebel against the norm and get closer to God.
  • Choosing better movies and music -  It seems everyone, including Christians, will listen to the same music and moves.  It doesn’t matter the content in them.  We talked about not just doing the normal thing, and giving movies and music a reality check–if they would help our love for God increase or decrease.
  • Honoring our parents  -  It’s usually a normal thing to treat your parents worse than any other person.  Our group shared about how we are supposed to honor our parents and treat them respect–rebelling against the culturally acceptable way to act towards our parents.

I’d encourage you, whether you went to camp or not, to consider your own lives.  Think about areas where you might be letting the norm creep into your life.  Rebel against the average and the apathetic, get  involved, and rebel.
