Well it’s been a couple days since we’ve been back from camp. I hope that all that went to camp have gotten rested up (and hopefully aren’t sick, I know a few, including myself, got some bugs from the trip).
For those who didn’t go to camp, the theme was Rebellion. Which at first sounds kinda weird. But it was not a typical rebellion–it was a rebellion against the world and all that it tells us. I’d encourage everyone to intentionally rebel in some way. Here are some ways that some people in our group shared that they wanted to rebel in.
- A daily quiet time - Though it sounds weird that being quiet equates to being a rebel. But think about it. How many Christians actually have a quiet time? Our group shared about how they wanted to rebel against the norm and get closer to God.
- Choosing better movies and music - It seems everyone, including Christians, will listen to the same music and moves. It doesn’t matter the content in them. We talked about not just doing the normal thing, and giving movies and music a reality check–if they would help our love for God increase or decrease.
- Honoring our parents - It’s usually a normal thing to treat your parents worse than any other person. Our group shared about how we are supposed to honor our parents and treat them respect–rebelling against the culturally acceptable way to act towards our parents.
I’d encourage you, whether you went to camp or not, to consider your own lives. Think about areas where you might be letting the norm creep into your life. Rebel against the average and the apathetic, get involved, and rebel.
