I AM FRUSTRATED!

It was a dark hot summer night.  The air was full of electricity.  I could see it.  No, I really could see it.  The lightening was flashing all around.  A group of us rushed to get the chairs and tables back to the church before the rain hit.  Even with the amazingly quick speed (like a gazelle) that I have – we did not make it in time.  It began to rain cats, dogs and some hamsters.  It was a heavy rain.  Luckily it only lasted for a few minutes.  The bad news is that the damage was already done.  The chairs were dirty and wet.

Now my job was not only to get the chairs back in the church building, but also to wipe them down and make sure they are dry and wet.  If you have ever wiped down a lot of chairs then you know this can take a long long long long time.  A long time.  Really long.  It was already late and I began the task at hand.

At first all went well.  It felt good to make sure all of the chairs were even cleaner than when they were new.  But, that slowly wore away.  After about 30 minutes I was frustrated that no-one was there to help me.  I was wiping them down by myself and I was sure that this was not right.  Someone else should feel sorry for me and come to my rescue.  I started to talk to God about what I was doing and how I felt about this horrible job.  I soon realized that when I took my eyes off of myself and remembered that I was doing this because I love God and for my friends – then it was not so bad.  This was a great lesson for me.  I was reminded that I should be doing all that I do for the glory of God.

I want to encourage you to think about what makes you say, “I am so frustrated!”.  When you find yourself in that situation to talk to God and tell Him how you feel.  Take your eyes off of yourself and remember who we live for.   I am happy to say that the rest of the chair cleaning went good for me and I am sure that if we keep our eyes on God a lot of our frustrations will be removed.

Like it says in 1 Corinthians 10:31

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
