Approaching the Throne with Confidence

In the book of Hebrews it says that we can approach the throne of grace with confidence that we will receive mercy and find grace to help us in our times of need.  In this difficult time I am glad that God has not left us to deal with heart ache and pain all on our own.  Not only has God provided faith in Jesus as a way of salvation, but He has also declared that He will never leave us.  I have to admit that at times like this it can feel like He has left me and left some of my friends out in the cold.  Even though I do not want to feel this way I have a hard time fighting the feelings that well up deep inside.  As I look at how God has worked in my own life, in the lives of those around me and throughout all of history, I am reminded of the truth – He is indeed involved and He is desiring that everyone will come to Him.

I want to invite you to join me in seeking out God during this difficult time.  It is during difficult times like this that we can call on God and He will provide what we need and we do not have to walk through this alone.  Please join me in praying for eachother and especially for the families of those involved in the car accident.  I pray that God will give these families a peace that only He can give.

I Don’t Decide If God Exists!

Until I was in college the main things I read were pictures.  You know, like the pictures in Motor Trend or Car and Driver.  I would read the pictures in a lot of car magazines and I could read them fast.  If the pictures were really good then I might even read the article that was beside them.  I never saw it coming – so it surprised me just as much as it surprised my friends – I started to read books.  That is right.  I read books that did not even have pictures.

The book I am reading right now is called “The Faith” by Charles Colson and Harold Fickett.  I am only on chapter two, but I am loving it.  For some crazy reason I like to read Non-Fiction books and especially ones that are about defending the Christian faith.  I know what I believe and I want others to believe along with me that Jesus came to the earth and lived a sinless life and then died on a cross so that I could be forgiven and that He ROSE FROM THE DEAD!  I read these books so that I can explain how being a Christian is both logical and practical.

I just wanted to let you know that God exists and it does not matter if you or I believe it or not.  I hope that you will check out a good book about Christianity and check into why you believe what you do.  If you are not a believer in God then maybe you will see new and amazing facts.  If you are already a Christian it will encourage you and help you to be able to explain to others what you believe.  I hope you will come to enjoy reading a good book like I do.  Most of all I hope you come to enjoy the Bible as you read about the love God has for you.

Los Angeles Information

Los Angeles

2010

 Hello Los Angeles Trip People,

I am very glad that you are going to L.A. Some people might ask you why we are going all the way to California when there are people in need right here.  We are going all the way to California for two main reasons.  First, Los Angeles has a larger community of needy families than we have here in Medicine Lodge and the ministries that are dealing with the needs are always in need of more help.  Second, the culture in Los Angeles is not the same as in our rural community.  By going to Los Angeles we will be stretched and will grow as we see how many people are needy and what we can do to help.  I pray that not only will our service help out others, but that the trip to California will also help us.  When we return from L.A., I hope that our faith will have grown and we will have gained more wisdom in loving God and loving others.

Warning:  If you are going on this trip only for a vacation and to visit California you will be sadly disappointed.  The trip will be fun and we will see some great tourist attractions in L.A., but we are going to serve others.  The focus of our trip and a majority of our trip will be helping out others.  We will not be eating the best food and we will not be wearing the fanciest clothes.  We will be serving others out of love.

In the rest of this packet I have included an outline of what we will be doing and who will be going.  Please begin to pray about our trip today and every day until we return.  The list also includes the “what to bring” and “what not to bring” lists.  I want to make a special not of cell phones.  Yes you can bring your cell phone, BUT with restrictions.  There will be times when you will not be able to have it with you AND you will run the risk if having it stolen.

Each of you needs to turn in a “Parental Permission Form and $200 before we leave.  If you did not attend Acquire The Fire you will also need to turn in a Medical Release Form.  If you have any other questions please call me at 886-3036 or 213-0014.

I am glad you are going on the trip and I look forward to seeing what God is going to do.  Let’s start praying today that God will use us for His glory and that He will teach us from all that we encounter while in California.

Sincerely,

Justin Mourn

P.S. – please be flexible and with the schedule.  Not everything is listed
